Ange Postecoglou in shock after ‘Incredible’ Tottenham incident v Manchester United

Fraser Forster’s second howler in seven minutes left Ange Postecoglou in “disbelief” after almost costing Tottenham against Manchester United.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (19 December, 9:29pm), former Spurs midfielder Michael Brown couldn’t believe what he was seeing as Forster gifted Amad Diallo a goal to make it 3-2 in Thursday’s EFL Cup tie.

That feeling was matched by Postecoglou as Forster’s clearance from his own goal-line ricocheted off Diallo and into the net, getting United back into the game before Spurs eventually saw out a 4-3 win.

Brown said: “Wow, absolutely incredible! Ange Postecoglou just looking down to the ground in shock, in disbelief!

“The back-pass comes… the touch is taken, (Forster) takes far too long. Amad Diallo just slides in, takes a risk – the goalkeeper just tries to drift it out.

“He gets in front of it, just flies into the back of the net. What a mistake.”

Fraser Forster’s Tottenham career could be over after howlers

Making one mistake to gift the opposition an embarrassing goal can often be looked past as a simple one-off error, but committing almost the exact same crime twice in just seven minutes is unforgivable.

That’s exactly what Forster did against United though, gift-wrapping both of the visitors’ first two goals in the 63rd and 70th minutes, with the latter leaving Postecoglou gobsmacked on the sidelines.

The Australian’s reaction is hardly surprising given that prior to Forster’s moments of madness, Spurs had been 3-0 up and cruising, tripling their first-half advantage within nine minutes of the restart.

Tottenham, Fraser Forster

With Guglielmo Vicario still out injured and not expected back until February at the earliest, the Lilywhites simply must explore the market in January, with trust in Forster surely at an all-time low.

Brandon Austin would be the next cab off the rank who could to step up if Postecoglou is at the end of his tether with Forster, and even the most pessimistic of Spurs fans wouldn’t blame him if that’s the case.
