Ange Postecoglou huge contender for West Ham job amid Graham Potter sack news
Ange Postecoglou’s return to the Premier League will likely not be what Tottenham fans envisioned.
Tottenham will be pleased with the decision to appoint Thomas Frank as head coach after sacking Postecoglou.
The Australian led Spurs to the UEFA Europa League trophy, ending a 17-year trophy drought. However, his Premier League record was abysmal, making history as the team with the lowest points to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, Spurs’ 2-0 victory against Manchester City at the Etihad has gifted them back-to-back wins in the top flight this season.
Despite this, Postecoglou could return to the Premier League sooner rather than later as West Ham set their sights on him.

Ange Postecoglou is bookies’ second favourite to replace Graham Potter
While Tottenham were celebrating their win against Man City, West Ham were nursing back-to-back defeats.
The Hammers’ most recent humiliation came in a 5-1 defeat against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Friday, 22 August. As a result, Graham Potter’s continuation at West Ham is in jeopardy.
As reported in the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (Page 69, 24 August), Potter is set to face a decisive week as Hammers head coach.
- Athens-born Postecoglou celebrates his 60th birthday on Wednesday, 27 September
- He’s previously managed Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory, Australia, Yokohama F Marinos, Celtic and Tottenham
- At Brisbane, he won three A-League titles before moving to Japan and winning the J-League with Yokohama
- Postecoglou won two Scottish Premierships, including one domestic treble, at Celtic
- He ended Spurs’ long wait for a trophy with a Europa League title last season
The crisis-ridden Irons are preparing to face Nottingham Forest and Wolves next, and Potter could face the sack if both end in defeat.
If that day comes, there is no doubt that Postecoglou will be waiting in the wings to take over. According to Casino Kings, Postecoglou is at 2/1 odds to replace Potter behind former England coach Gareth Southgate at 6/5.
The former Spurs coach can still expect a Premier League return, even if the destination is not West Ham. Indeed, Nottingham Forest are reportedly considering Postecoglou with Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure on the cards.
Tottenham fans will no doubt want the best for their former manager. However, a move abroad definitely would have been the preferred option for one or two.

What was Ange Postecoglou’s record at Tottenham?
It was all downhill for Postecoglou after going unbeaten in his first 10 Premier League matches in the 2023/24 season.
A 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in a game which saw Tottenham collect two red cards was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Manager | Club | Games | W | D | L |
Ange Postecoglou | Tottenham | 101 | 47 | 14 | 40 |
After that, Postecoglou won just 23 of his 66 Premier League matches. This shocking statistic contributed to Spurs’ decision to sack him.
With just seven fewer defeats in all competitions at Tottenham, his career with the Hammers could be a rocky one.
