Ange Postecoglou given ‘Unacceptable’ Tottenham warning

Ange Postecoglou somehow oversaw a 17th Premier League loss of the season as Tottenham were beaten 4-2 by Wolves on Sunday.

The boss made several changes to his line-up at Molineux, as the Lilywhites put all their efforts towards the Europa League as they prepare for a second leg against Frankfurt.

The first leg ended 1-1 at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, meaning there is plenty of work to be done on Thursday as Postecoglou’s future hangs by a thread in Germany.

Postecoglou given stern warning

Tottenham have had a terrible season, and sitting fifteenth in the Premier League is a clear reflection.

There has been mountains of pressure on Postecoglou for some time now, although getting to the quarter-finals of the Europa League seems to have been his saving grace so far.

Tottenham have had a poor season.

With the Europa League guaranteeing qualification for the Champions League, it may bizarrely even make this season a success if that happens.

Although the Australians’ side goes into the game level, an away tie is always tougher, and another defeat in the league doesn’t provide much momentum.

Meanwhile, Frankfurt picked up a 3-0 win at home in their latest Bundesliga outing, potentially providing a boost already.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (14 April, 9:23 am), Ally McCoist sent Postecoglou a warning, saying: “Of course it’s disappointing [losing against Wolves], 17 defeats in the league is anything but acceptable.

“However, Thursday is their big big game and, as you correctly said, Frankfurt had a comfortable 3-0 home win yesterday in the league, so it’s a heck of a task, heck of a task.”

Postecoglou has to oversee Tottenham win

There are plenty of problems at Tottenham and Postecoglou cannot be the only one who gets blame for the failings this season.

However, the football has not been good enough, and if Daniel Levy wants things to improve, that will no doubt start with a managerial change.

There have been suggestions that even victory in Europe will no longer be enough to save the boss, but should his side get knocked out, there seems little else for the chief to do.

As McCoist says, it won’t be an easy game, and Spurs’ recent form certainly does not fill supporters with much hope.

That being said, if Postescoglou wants to secure his future for a bit longer, he will know his side has to be at the top of their game.

If not, he will be facing the sack within days.
