Ange Postecoglou faces Tottenham sack within days after what he said in interview

Ange Postecoglou is under immense pressure as the Tottenham manager after a three-game winless run.

Tottenham dropped points at home again as they played out a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday, 9 March.

While Spurs showed determined to come from two goals behind to salvage a point, it is worth noting that they are winless in three games across all competitions, having lost 1-0 against Manchester City at home last weekend.

The two results in the Premier League came on either side of a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie on Thursday, 6 March.

Henry Winter delivers ‘uninspiring’ verdict on Postecoglou

Tottenham were understandably a topic of discussion on talkSPORT’s Breakfast show on Monday (10 March) as Alan Brazil and Ray Parlour looked back at the major talking points from the weekend.

Assessing Spurs’ performance against Bournemouth, the broadcasters aired an interview with Postecoglou, who stressed the need for his team to replicate the mentality they showed in the second half on Sunday in their game against Alkmaar on Thursday (13 March).

“We are in the situation that we are in and, from our perspective, it’s about trial and error and focus on the important things”, Postecoglou said.

“The important thing is we show the right mentality like we did towards the end of the game and make sure we sort of tackle the next challenge in the same way.”

Henry Winter, though, was not impressed by what Postecoglou had to say as he described the former Celtic boss as “uninspiring”.

The journalist also insisted that the Europa League will be make or break for the Greek-Australian manager, who otherwise faces the sack in North London.

“Postecoglou, you just played an interview with him there”, Winter said on talkSPORT (7:09 am, 10 March).

“I find him slightly uninspiring and that’s me as a civilian looking in, I don’t know quite how players would react to him, but at least they showed spirit in the second half.

“They came back for that, but Spurs’ season all rests down to Thursday and what happens in the Europa League against Alkmaar and if they can overturn that and keep going in that.

“Otherwise, it’s tick-tock time for Ange.”

Tottenham to write off another season

Tottenham have had a poor season at the domestic level as they sit 13th in the Premier League after 28 games while also being knocked out of both cup competitions.

Therefore, their only hope of success lies in the Europa League, but they are facing the prospect of disappointment on that front too as they trail 1-0 against Alkmaar going into the second leg.

It is imperative that Postecoglou orchestrate a comeback when the Dutch outfit visit Spurs on Thursday if he wants to keep his place as their manager.
