Ange Postecoglou could seal Premier League return after shock new announcement
Ange Postecoglou could make a return to the Premier League much sooner than expected.
Postecoglou was sacked in June, just weeks after ending Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought.
Despite enduring a miserable domestic season, Postecoglou won the Europa League at Spurs and did not anticipate that his job would be under threat.
However, Daniel Levy took action after Postecoglou somehow finished 17th in the Premier League and recorded 22 losses.
Developments in the Premier League mean that Postecoglou could be returning to the English top-flight very soon.

Ange Postecoglou favourite to become Nottingham Forest manager
Alex Crook has reported that Postecoglou remains one of the early favourites to replace Nuno Espirito Santo as Nottingham Forest manager.
Nuno has done a fantastic job at Forest, taking them from fighting relegation to securing European football last season.
However, reports of a breakdown in the relationship between Nuno and owner Evangelos Marinakis have been circulating in the media all summer, and the Forest ownership has finally pulled the trigger.
With the board favouring a more attractive style of football, Ange is already one of the top candidates to fill the role.
His Spurs side last season had no issues finding the back of the net, but rather defending their own.
Team stat | Tottenham’s rank among the other Premier League teams in 2024/25 |
Goals per match | 7th |
Average Possession | 5th |
Goals conceded per match | 16th |
Clean sheets | 16th |
It’s clear to see that a move for Ange after two years of defensive stability under Nuno is a huge risk, and perhaps one that won’t be well received by Forest fans.
However, Marinakis is not afraid of making risky decisions, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see Postecoglou in the dugout as Forest manager in the coming weeks.

Thomas Frank has already fixed some of Ange Postecoglou’s problems
Postecoglou’s failure to adapt his system was one of his biggest flaws as Tottenham manager, yet in Frank, Spurs have already been extremely versatile in just four games.
Tottenham’s 3-0 win against Burnley was spearheaded by Richarlison, whilst Spurs’ brilliant win over Manchester City was a fantastic display of defensive stability, something fans did not see too often.
Despite the disappointing loss to Bournemouth before the international break, Frank has gotten Spurs fans on board with his versatile and disciplined approach to matters so far.
Perhaps Postecoglou will need to find a balance between free-flowing football and defensive pragmatism if he gets the Nottingham Forest job.
