Andy Gray hits out at ‘nonsense’ Tottenham v Crystal Palace footage he’s shown

Tottenham were comprehensively beaten 2-0 at home against Crystal Palace to leave them one spot above the Premier League relegation zone.

Clinical finishes either side of half-time from Eberechi Eze subjected Spurs to yet another loss, taking their total tally to a whopping 24 defeats across all competitions this season.

The excuse of focusing their energy on the impending Europa League final would have fallen on deaf ears as their opponents on the day produced a far superior performance despite having an FA Cup final in the offing themselves.

It was a familiarly miserable afternoon in North London, with the additional injury scare to Dejan Kulusevski only adding further salt to their wounds.

Andy Gray questions VAR decision

Tottenham were fortunate to come away with only a two-goal deficit, and had VAR not intervened, the scoreline could easily have been more emphatic.

With the scores still level, Palace produced a sweeping move in the 10th minute which ended with Ismaila Sarr blasting the ball past Antonin Kinsky.

Celebrations were quickly halted as referee Chris Kavanagh blew his whistle as the semi-automated VAR flagged Jean-Philippe Mateta as having been in an offside position earlier in the sequence.

When images later emerged showing how marginal the call was and, crucially, what part of the body was adjudged to be offside, it sparked Andy Gray to comment live on beIN SPORTS [11 May]: “That is absolute nonsense.”

Others agreed that Tottenham were fortunate, but ultimately it didn’t matter as the Eagles soared to a comfortable victory.

Glasner offers glimpse of what could be

Ange Postecoglou’s future was never going to hinge on the result against Palace. However, it certainly did him no favours whilst standing opposite one of the leading candidates to potentially replace him.

Oliver Glasner has been a person of interest for the Lilywhites for a considerable time, and if Sunday’s game was a further audition, he passed with flying colours.

The Eagles were 15th when he took over, eventually finishing the season in the top half.

Adaptation to the loss of star player Michel Olise led them to having a poor start this campaign, but Glasner eventually solved the puzzle and now has them sitting in 12th with the chance to deliver the club their first major cup trophy.

The fact that the Austrian has done so playing an attractive brand of football on a limited budget and has maintained excellent league form in tandem with their cup run will have caught the eye of Daniel Levy.
