Andoni Iraola speaks out amid ‘serious’ Postecoglou sack news at Tottenham

Andoni Iraola has spoken out about his ambitions after a “serious” update on Ange Postecoglou’s status at Tottenham.

Spurs are 14th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Therefore, the UEFA Europa League is all that the North London club have left to play for this season.

As a result, Postecoglou’s future might depend on whether he can end Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought. However, even that might not save the Australian after a recent update.

The current focus at Tottenham is finishing the season on a high as they prepare for their Europa League quarter-final tie with Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season, there are question marks over Postecoglou’s long-term future in North London.

Should Levy decide to sack the Australian, Iraola is the number one target at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the £10million release clause in his Bournemouth contract not thought to be a hurdle.

Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are also under consideration, with the former being the second choice.

However, Iraola could bring a star Bournemouth player with him to North London, which would be a bonus, and the Spaniard has now spoken out on his future in a recent press conference.

Iraola asked about his future at Bournemouth

Bournemouth are 10 points ahead of Tottenham in the Premier League. In addition, they remain in the FA Cup and will host Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium in the quarter-final on Sunday (30 March).

Both of these facts point toward the wonderful job Iraola is doing, despite “horrendous” Bournemouth developments this season.

And speaking ahead of the City clash, Iraola was asked about his managerial ambitions, to which he replied, “I want to do my job the best I can.

“I don’t know how far we can go, where we will finish. I want to do my job the best I can. If I don’t do the job very well, they will find someone else.

“I’m really happy here. We have a great opportunity to make history, and it would be amazing for me personally and for the club to achieve new heights, but we know that we have to be realistic. There are better teams than us, and we have to fight against very good teams. We will try to give the best level we have.”
