Andoni Iraola reacts as ‘lucrative’ approach made to hire Bournemouth manager

Tottenham could be set to replace Ange Postecoglou and have identified Andoni Iraola as an option after recent success with Bournemouth.

Postecoglou led Tottenham to their first major trophy in 17 years after a 1-0 victory against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday (21 May).

Despite this, the Lilywhites could still finish 17th in what would be their worst-ever Premier League campaign.

The high of a Europa League win may not be enough to satisfy Daniel Levy, and Iraola might be just what Tottenham need to compete in the Premier League once more.

Iraola shuts down ‘lucrative’ approach from Saudi Arabia

Despite a poor run of form in recent months, Iraola has impressed overall with Bournemouth, who are currently 11th in the Premier League.

The 42-year-old has made a big impact since arriving on the South Coast from Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2023 and is now approaching the final year of his contract.

Bournemouth have had a successful Premier League season

According to The Mirror (23 May), the Spanish manager has rejected “lucrative approaches” to coach in the Saudi Pro League in favour of continuing in the Premier League.

The Spaniard has also attracted admirers at Spurs, who will look to decide on Europa League-winning boss Postecoglou in the coming days.

However, Bournemouth are optimistic that Iraola will not only complete the last 12 months of his contract but also extend his stay at the Vitality Stadium.

Tottenham need to decide on Postecoglou’s future soon

Now that they have qualified for the UEFA Champions League, Tottenham will need to spend in the summer transfer window to compete in Europe’s elite competition.

However, a decision must first be made on the manager. Postecoglou or whoever comes next must be given the time and resources to plan for the new season, and the continuation of this saga will only harm Tottenham in the long term.

As a result, the North London club must decide whether to retain or forego Postecoglou’s services for the new season sooner rather than later.
