Andoni Iraola holds meeting amid Tottenham links as ‘optimistic’ verdict emerges

Andoni Iraola has been linked with a switch to Tottenham if Ange Postecoglou is sacked.

The Australian head coach has come under high scrutiny in North London this campaign as Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League with six games to go.

This could see Daniel Levy pull the sack trigger before the end of the season, especially if the Europa League clash against Frankfurt ends in defeat.

Iraola could prove to be the replacement for the ex-Celtic boss, with meetings now being held ahead of the summer.

Iraola in meetings amid Bournemouth exit links

There is no certainty that the 59-year-old head coach is going to remain in North London for the long term after such a poor season.

This will see a huge decision made as to who takes charge of the Lilywhites moving forward.

Iraola is said to be the number one managerial target as Postecoglou’s future remains in “serious” doubt with just weeks remaining in the campaign [The Athletic, 27 March].

TEAMtalk reported on 15 April that the Spanish head coach “remains high in their thinking” if the sack trigger is pulled on the current boss.

This comes after Bournemouth owner Bill Foley held a meeting with the 42-year-old to discuss his future and goals at the Vitality.

The Cherries remain optimistic that they can persuade Iraola to extend his stay and are desperate to keep hold of the ex-Athletic Club defender.

This would come as a blow to Levy and Co. as new targets would have to be considered if their main target was to remain on the south coast.

Tottenham could now miss out on Iraola

There is no doubt that the former Rayo Vallecano boss would be well-received at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if he were to come in.

The 42-year-old has been superb with the Cherries, despite initially being a controversial appointment after the departure of Gary O’Neil.

Andoni Iraola Bournemouth record

Iraola has gone on to prove doubters wrong and has pushed the Cherries up the Premier League into a position to fight for a European place.

This is a far cry from where Spurs are this year under Postecoglou as they continue to suffer towards the bottom end of the division.
