Ally McCoist shares brutal reality for Igor Tudor after what he’s seen about Tottenham – ‘It’s not ideal’
Ally McCoist believes that Igor Tudor is in for a rude awakening early on in his Tottenham career.
Spurs have confirmed the appointment of their short-term Thomas Frank successor, who will see out the season in charge of the Lilywhites.
Tottenham chiefs believe that Tudor is the man to take Spurs forward in the short-term, with a chance for success in the Champions League still possible.
However, the Lilywhites look like they are in danger of Premier League relegation, and the Croatian has a heavy responsibility to keep them up.
McCoist thinks that, as far as starts go for a manager, it doesn’t get much tougher than for Tudor in N17.
Ally McCoist claims Igor Tudor has ‘heck of a start’ at Tottenham
Tudor’s first game in charge of the Lilywhites will be a North London derby clash against top of the league Arsenal.
It could go one of two ways, with the feeling at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium already sour. A win could help Tudor gain invaluable momentum, whereas a loss to the Gunners is the worst possible start imaginable.
| Games | Date |
| Tottenham vs Arsneal | 22 February |
| Fulham vs Tottenham | 1 March |
| Tottenham vs Crystal Palace | 5 March |
| Liverpool vs Tottenham | 15 March |
| Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest | 22 March |
Not only his first game in charge, but the matches that follow afterwards will also be a big test of Tudor’s philosophy and ability to galvanise a squad.
While speaking live on talkSPORT, McCoist shared his fear for the former Juventus boss and how it will be difficult to get off to a good start in N17.
McCoist said: “Say whatever you like, but it’s a heck of a start. If I were going to be brutally honest, I would say I don’t think he would want that start.
“Yeah, it’s great if you turn over your rivals, but I don’t think it’s the ideal start. I’ve not seen anything that suggests that Tottenham could turn over Arsenal.”
The showdown is possibly the biggest match of Tottenham’s season, as the importance of a win could not be put into words.
Laurent Blanc’s past words on Tudor should convince Spurs fans
It goes without saying, but the appointment of Tudor is left-field. The 47-year-old hadn’t seen much success in charge of Juventus, and he emerged from nowhere to land the interim job in N17.
A lot has been said about Tudor’s playstyle, and though it can only be judged when seen in full at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, past compliments can be very telling.

Former French international centre-back Laurent Blanc is a big fan of the Tottenham boss’s approach to management.
Blanc said, as quoted by Get Football News France in April 2023: “He’s a very good coach who demands real commitment and going beyond the function. It’s beautiful.”
One thing we have seen a lack of from Spurs this season is desire and passion. Hopefully, Tudor can work his magic, and quickly, because it’s desperately needed.
