Alan Shearer ‘feared’ for Tottenham after what happened at half time vs Aston Villa – ‘Really toxic’

Tottenham fans were left hugely frustrated once again after losing to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Aston Villa secured another 2-1 win against Tottenham in North London to dump the Lilywhites out of the FA Cup and book their place in the fourth round.

Emi Buendia and Morgan Rogers scored again at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to replicate the result from Villa’s October win over Spurs.

Unai Emery’s side went in at half-time with a 2-0 lead, sparking anger from the Spurs fans towards Thomas Frank as he edges closer towards the sack.

Alan Shearer watched from the commentary box in N17 and had concerns about the supporter reaction if Villa’s dominance had continued into the second half.

Alan Shearer raises ‘toxic’ concern at Tottenham

Villa aimed Arsenal-based chants towards Frank after his misstep away to Bournemouth last time around, with pressure continuing to build on the Dane.

There is a good reason for increased annoyance towards the former Brentford boss, as his side continue to showcase poor performances, particularly at home.

Things were no different against Villa, as the travelling side dominated the first half and took a two-goal lead with relative ease.

Both strikes from Rogers and Buendia were well-worked by the Villans, but highlighted the defensive weaknesses that Spurs have shown all season.

The atmosphere inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was one of anger and frustration towards Frank and his players as the half-time whistle was blown.

That aggression concerned Shearer on The Rest is Football podcast, as he worried about what would happen if Villa had extended their lead further.

He said: “It was loud at half-time when they were going off. There was a lot of anger from the Spurs fans. I feared for them because if Villa had gotten a third, it would have gotten really toxic.

Shearer angered by Spurs performance vs Aston Villa

The Newcastle United legend was in total agreement with the Lilywhites faithful about what they made of their side’s performance.

There was little to be positive about Tottenham’s first-half showing as the visitors were able to play around the hosts and create plenty of chances.

That wasn’t lost on Shearer, who took aim at Frank’s men after a dreadful opening 45 minutes against the Villans.

The ex-England international added: “They were awful. The first 10 minutes were alright, but after that. Then Villa got the goal, they had no fight about them, and nobody wanted to get on the ball.

They were void of ideas. Aston Villa were by far the better team, and Spurs were booed off.

Shearer is spot on with his verdict, and that, combined with the reaction of supporters, could mark the end of the road for Frank in North London.
