Alan Brazil ‘baffled’ by Ange Postecoglou decision in Tottenham loss v Arsenal

Alan Brazil has been left baffled by Ange Postecoglou’s decision to bench James Maddison for the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Arsenal on Wednesday.

Spurs ended up getting beaten 2-1 by their North London rivals and now sit 13th in the Premier League table.

While the Australian has had his fair share of injuries among his ranks, it feels strange for him to have left out one of his most creative players in one of their most important games of the season.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (16 January) Brazil and Gabby Agbonlahor shared their thoughts on the choice Postecoglou made.

“He brought [James] Maddison on at half-time and he didn’t really make a difference,” Agbonlahor said.

To which Brazil replied: “Why does he, I don’t understand why he doesn’t just start him, I’m really baffled.”

Ange Postecoglou has to start James Maddison for Tottenham in their game v Everton

Spurs are set to take on Everton in their next Premier League clash in what could be a make-or-break point in the season for Postecoglou.

The Australian is already hanging onto his job by a thin thread and defeat to David Moyes’ men could be enough to see an end to his tenure as Spurs boss.

At the moment, it feels like Daniel Levy is allowing the former Celtic boss some leeway due to the amount of injuries his team have suffered this term but even with those injuries taken into account, it still feels like Tottenham should be doing better than what they have been.

Maddison is one of, if not the most creative players among Spurs’ ranks and it feels silly for Postecoglou to not want to start him in each game.

For now, however, it’s anyone’s guess what the future holds but unless the 59-year-old finds a way to turn things around, it could result in the premature end of his tenure.
