Guglielmo Vicario has shocker, Thomas Frank change tries to inspire – Tottenham player ratings vs Aston Villa
Guglielmo Vicario saw his net bulge twice as Tottenham lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted Unai Emery’s team on 10 January, with Emi Buendia and Morgan Rogers giving the visitors a two-goal lead going into the break.
Spurs lost Richarlison to an apparent hamstring injury at around the half-hour mark, with Randal Kolo Muani replacing the Brazilian striker.
Wilson Odobert got the Lilywhites back into the game with a thunderous strike in the 54th minute, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
Tottenham led down by Guglielmo Vicario yet again
Vicario has come under heavy criticism at Tottenham this season, with the Italian goalkeeper’s shot-stopping skills raising question marks.
Once again, the 29-year-old arguably could’ve done better to stop Buendia from scoring, with the Spurs star beaten at his near post.
Vicario is often seen shouting at his defenders, but the shot-stopper needs a little introspection after his recent performances.
The former Empoli ace hasn’t lived up to expectations in recent months, and he may be playing for his future at the North London outfit.
Randal Kolo Muani brings much-needed energy vs Aston Villa
Kolo Muani has had an underwhelming stint at Spurs so far, but the Frenchman’s arrival against Villa spurred the hosts on.
The Paris Saint-Germain loanee had the ball in the back of the net in the first half, but it was disallowed after the striker was marginally offside at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kolo Muani was the architect of the North London outfit’s goal, first showing much-needed urgency by tracking back and stealing the ball from the opposition, and then setting up Oodbert.
The 27-year-old almost set up Simons for the equaliser as the Lilywhites started to dominate proceedings in the second half, but the linesman raised his flag, and now Frank’s future will certainly be up in the air.
