Brennan Johnson in 2/10 shocker, 8/10 teammate impresses – Tottenham player ratings vs Bournemouth
Tottenham took on Bournemouth on Saturday as they aimed to continue their strong start to the season, after beating Burnley and Manchester City.
Spurs conceded their first Premier League goal of the season as Evanilson opened the scoring in the fifth minute, and it was a woeful display as they lost 1-0.
Tottenham failed to register a single shot in the first half, while Bournemouth had ten attempts on goal as Thomas Frank’s side struggled.
Bournemouth continued to rip through Tottenham’s defence in the second half, and there were disappointing displays all over the pitch.

Brennan Johnson struggles vs Bournemouth
Tottenham’s entire attack was underwhelming as they failed to create anything for long stretches of the game, but Brennan Johnson was particularly disappointing.
The Welshman failed to make any impact at all, delivering an utterly anonymous performance on the left wing, and was eventually substituted for Wilson Odobert in the 54th minute.
Stat | Johnson |
Minutes | 54 |
Shots | 0 |
Passes (completed) | 13 (7) |
Chances created | 0 |
Duels (won) | 4 (2) |
Johnson completed just seven of his 13 attempted passes, did not create a single chance, did not register a shot and failed to complete a single dribble.
Despite scoring against Man City last week, Johnson had a day to forget, and his place in the side may now come under question.
Guglielmo Vicario impresses against Bournemouth
Perhaps the only player who can be proud of his display was goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who made several outstanding saves to keep Tottenham in the game.
Bournemouth created countless chances, but Vicario was on hand to stop them, with particularly impressive saves from Antoine Semenyo and David Brooks at the start of the second half.
Vicario’s kicking was criticised against Man City, but he helped keep the score down in what could have otherwise been a humiliation.
