View: Tottenham exit for struggling Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg makes sense as Fulham ready move
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks nailed on for a Tottenham exit in January after a development has emerged.
The Daily Mirror reported on page 55 of its print edition on Wednesday (15 November) that Fulham are ready to make another attempt to sign the Danish international after failing with a £25million bid over the summer.
It added that the 28-year-old midfielder "remains keen" on a move away from Spurs in a bid to earn more first-team football, with Juventus also believed to be weighing up whether or not to make a January offer to sign him.
It would mark a disappointing end to Hojbjerg's career in North London after he has been a solid player for the club over the past three years since joining from Southampton, having made 157 appearances.
But his role in the side has massively reduced this season, with the new Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou favouring Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma ahead of him in midfield.
That pairing has proven to be extremely profitable for the Aussie so far, with Sarr earning an average SofaScore rating of 7.15 and Bissouma coming in with a 7.17.
Hojbjerg has earned a 6.78 rating after starting just three games in all competitions in the opening few months of this campaign and, ironically, two of those starts came against Fulham.
After being given the nod in midfield alongside Sarr and Bissouma for the 2-1 defeat against Wolves on Saturday (11 November), the Dane didn't exactly do much to prove why he should be more involved this season.
The combative midfielder won just four of the nine duels he was involved in, made just one tackle and was dribbled past three times at Molineux.
He was also rather careless in possession, having given the ball away on 16 occasions, with Spurs conceding twice in injury time in what was just their second Premier League defeat of the campaign.
Hojbjerg doesn't seem the type that is happy to sit around and wait for the odd opportunities here and there, as he is someone who plays with his heart on his sleeve and wants to be involved as much as possible.
It's no real surprise that he is still keen to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a bid to earn more first-team minutes elsewhere.
With Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha continuously linked with a move away from Craven Cottage, his potential departure could lead to them firming up their interest in the Spurs midfielder again.
Postecoglou is unlikely to let him leave without getting someone in to replace him, but if the West Londoners come calling with an offer in the £25million region again, the club could be wise to take it as his value is only likely to decrease further.
