Yago Santiago sent a "cheeky" message to Ange Postecoglou during Tottenham Under-21s' victory over Aston Villa's Under-21s.

Spurs advanced to the final four of the Premier League Cup with a 3-1 win over the Villans at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday (2 April).

With the score tied at 1-1, late goals from the ever-reliable Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear ensured Wayne Burnett's side would feature in the semi-finals, but it was Santiago who stole the show.

The Spaniard had opened the scoring in the first-half before Kaden Young equalised for the hosts two minutes after the restart, and his overall play was described as "excellent" on the Tottenham Hotspur Website (2 April).

During one passage of play, he delightfully nutmegged a Villa defender before bursting free down the left and firing a shot toward goal.

Spurs posted a video of the skill to their official website, describing it as a "cheeky nutmeg" in the title.

Yago Santiago has demonstrated to Ange Postecoglou he is ready for the Tottenham first-team

Santiago is one of the older players within the academy setup, and the 20-year-old will feel as if he is deserving of an opportunity under Postecoglou.

With his current contract in North London set to enter its final 12 months this summer, the winger is running out of time to make an impact, and he will be desperate to make his Tottenham debut sooner rather than later.

He has been on fire for the Under-21s this season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 13 Premier League 2 outings, and it is clear that he is ready to play senior football.

This performance against Villa was a clear message that now is the time for Santiago to make the step up, and the forward will hope that Postecoglou was paying close attention.
