John Wenham praised Tottenham Women for their "phenomenal" result against Arsenal Women but reminded supporters that "it will take time" for the club to catch up with the WSL's "well-established sides."

Spurs earned a point away to Arsenal on Wednesday 13 December, drawing 3-3 in their FA Women's League Cup Group D clash, although they missed the chance to earn an extra point after losing on penalties.

The two north London rivals will meet again just three days on from their cup clash, this time in the WSL at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 16 December.

Robert Vilahamn's side will be looking to build on their draw and end a miserable recent run, although Wenham insists that the club and supporters must continue to be patient with the women's team.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “It is important to remember how much longer Arsenal have been investing in the women’s team compared to Tottenham. The salaries they pay, and the profile of players they bring into the club.

“To get a 3-3 draw was a phenomenal achievement from Tottenham and I was really pleased. Hopefully, in front of a bumper crowd at the stadium over the weekend, they can continue to impress and look to take Arsenal close or get a positive result.

“We look at the results against the two Manchester clubs recently, and they don’t look good on paper, but you must take into account the money those two clubs have invested.

“With City, you've got four or five of those players who are Lionesses, and United have got a couple as well. It is a completely different level of investment, and I hope that Tottenham will now continue to invest in the women's side, and I'm sure they will, but it will take time to catch up with those well-established teams.”
