Tottenham have the carrot of UEFA Champions League football as they look to beat Manchester United to Tyler Dibling.

Dibling is a long-term target for Tottenham, with the teenager shining despite a torrid season for Southampton.

Competition to land the 19-year-old is likely to be fierce, with Manchester United also in the running for his signature.

And although they have been relegated to the Championship, Southampton have slapped a sizeable price tag on their prized asset.

Tottenham and Man United must pay big for Dibling

This season has been a breakthrough one for Dibling, with the 19-year-old recognised for some fine performances in the Premier League.

Despite making just one Championship start in 2023/24, Dibling made 33 appearances for the Saints this term.

The Englishman was a class above his Southampton colleagues, hence why he is wanted by the Premier League's biggest clubs.

Tottenham have been credited with interest in the playmaker throughout the campaign and are eyeing a transfer. As reported by GiveMeSport (2 June), the Saints are hoping to net a seismic £100million for Dibling, while £60million could tempt them into selling.

Such news might be enough to ward Spurs and United away, although they could start negotiations with a smaller opening bid.

Spurs should offer a reduced fee for Dibling

While Dibling is a player with a promising future ahead of him, the reported fees present too much of a risk for Tottenham.

Yes, Dibling has shown his class, but this was his first proper season in senior football, and he must add consistency. A fee of £100m is way too much, and even £60m feels a bit of a stretch for someone who is now a Championship player.

Considering Chelsea paid an initial £53million for Romeo Lavia, Spurs should earmark around the same fee at a maximum for Dibling. The Lilywhites do need wingers, and adding the youngster will give the North London club some healthy options.

However, as Tottenham aim to add quality, they must be shrewd in their business and not splurge all their money on potential.
