Tottenham have no financial incentive to win the Carabao Cup this season, Dan Plumley says.

The football finance expert shared that the winners only pick up £100,000, making it the "most insignificant" trophy in English football.

"Financially, it's probably the most insignificant trophy you can win," Plumley exclusively told Tottenham News.

"It's £100,000 for the winners in the final, £50,000 for the runners-up.

"So, it's never a cup that has been a big earner at all, it's all about the trophy for this one which is unusual in modern-day football.

Tottenham to win insignificant trophy?

"This one is very much about the trophy as the winners get £100,000 and for the clubs that are left in it, that is nothing at all in terms of financial incentive."

This isn't insignificant to Tottenham, with everyone desperate for silverware.

Postecoglou joked that he always wins trophies in his second season at clubs, and that may be the only thing keeping him in a job right now in North London.

Having not won a major trophy since the Carling Cup against Chelsea back in 2008, there haven't been many better chances, with the Europa League also still wide open.

Spurs and Postecoglou will be hoping for better injury news ahead of the second leg at Anfield on 6 February, or the Premier League leaders could have a field day.
