Tottenham 'to welcome Andoni Iraola' amid 'tired' Postecoglou verdict

Paul Robinson

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson played 175 times for Tottenham between 2004 and 2008, winning the League Cup with Spurs in the 2007/08 season. Since hanging up his gloves in 2017, Robinson has moved into the world of punditry and can be regularly seen or heard on Sky Sports and BBC Radio 5 Live. Tottenham News is now delighted to present Robinson as part of its team of experts.

Andoni Iraola continues to be linked with the Tottenham job if Ange Postecoglou faces the sack in North London.

Postecoglou will have his only focus fixated on winning the Europa League with Tottenham in a bid to save his job.

However, with or without that success, there remains a chance that Daniel Levy will pull the trigger on the Australian and seek a new appointment this summer.

Therefore, several candidates have been linked with the role. However, Iraola has remained as the favourite amid the success he has achieved at Bournemouth.

Iraola would transform Tottenham on the pitch

Iraola would certainly be a good appointment in North London, and Paul Robinson, when speaking to Tottenham News, believes it is one that the fans would welcome with open arms.

"I think there are a lot of fans who are tired of Ange," explained Robinson.

"Iraola's come in, he's done an incredible job at Bournemouth. I remember 10 games into the start of last season, he was the favourite to get the sack. He'd come in as this virtual unknown. We all in the media and in the press had to do a lot of research and look into his background as to who he was. And then the start that he had last year at Bournemouth was really poor.

Tottenham are in need of fresh ideas next season.

"I think the way that he's got Bournemouth playing, the players that they've lost, the players that they've recruited and the most important thing, the way that they play on the pitch, with the high press that they have, the ball retention that they enjoy, they're a good team to watch.

"You look at where their budget is, you'd probably say that they're overachieving in the Premier League. They have done for a long time as a club, but actually, this season with Iraola and his style of football, I think Tottenham fans would welcome his appointment."

Tottenham in need of new ideas next season

Domestically, it has been a nightmare of a season for Tottenham, who will be hoping to right the wrongs next campaign.

However, that is unlikely to happen under Postecoglou given the failures he has showcased this season.

This summer will be a huge one for Spurs, and it is imperative that they get every decision right.
