Tottenham to make ‘major changes’ in  UEFA Super Cup v PSG

Thomas Frank is expected to shock a few individuals at Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup.

Tottenham take on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday (13 August). 

The Parisian side are the favourites going into the tie after achieving a historic quadruple last season. However, their heavy defeat 3-0 against Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final demonstrates that they’re not invincible.

As a result, Frank will be looking to compete, and his means of doing so should come as a surprise.

Frank to shake up Tottenham side which won the Europa League 

Tottenham went into the UEFA Europa League final as underdogs and came out as victors. 

The team that started the game demonstrated huge resilience against Manchester United. Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr formed a formidable midfield trio. 

Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven’s heroics and Cristian Romero’s Player of the Match performance ensured Spurs won the title.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Frank will make several changes from the team that started the final in Bilbao. 

“Even though it's so soon since the Europa League final, I think Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus are certain to start against PSG,” Wenham said. 

“I can't see Bissouma starting, even though he started that final against United. Domonic Solanke is injured, and I don't see him starting that game. So I think Richarlison comes in, and I think Wilson Odobert, who I don't think was on the pitch in Bilbao, will also start that game. 

“So, quite a few major changes already from our last final a couple of months ago.”

Odobert should start over Brennan Johnson against PSG 

While Brennan Johnson displayed some positive signs against Newcastle last week, Odobert has looked the more lively of the two on the left wing. 

The Welshman has the potential to score the odd goal, but the youngster brings others into the game when out wide. From take-ons completed to chances created, Odobert is the more threatening of the two. 

  • Odobert is better than Johnson on the ball and in tight spaces
  • This will allow him to take on his fullback and run at the PSG defence
  • Frank will likely consider starting Odobert against PSG

Spurs will need to bring their A-game to beat PSG.
