Tottenham to make Archie Gray Leeds United loan decision amid squad concern

Tottenham Hotspur would be very unlikely to allow Archie Gray to return to Leeds United on loan in January due to their commitments in the Europa League, according to Ian Darke.

The 18-year-old moved to North London in a deal worth in excess of £25million in the summer, and has featured sporadically in the first season of a six-year contract.

TV commentator Darke thinks Spurs' European football venture will ultimate kibosh a loan return this winter because Ange Postecoglou will need to manage his resources accordingly.

"What legislates against Gray going back to Leeds on loan is, I think, Tottenham in the Europa League," Darke told MOT Leeds News.

"They need a deep squad because they've got a hectic schedule. If they only had the Premier League and the domestic cups to think about, it would maybe be a different story.

"Leeds fans would love to see him come back and help deliver promotion, but I'd be more than a little surprised if Spurs allowed it to happen."

While Leeds would have hoped to see their coveted academy product continue his development at Elland Road a while longer, Tottenham were able to take advantage of the Whites' PSR difficulties.

Joe Rodon moved in the opposite direction on a permanent deal having spent last season on loan at Leeds, though the two purchases were agreed separately.

Gray has made 11 appearances so far for Spurs including five in the Premier League, though he still awaits his first top-flight start under Ange Postecoglou.
