Yves Bissouma’s reported contract extension at Tottenham has casted doubt among onlookers.

Bissouma has been sidelined for Tottenham after sustaining an injury issue while on international duty with Mail.

Prior to that, the defensive midfielder had received minimal minutes under Thomas Frank ever since he arrived just before pre-season.

It is clear that the 29-year-old is not in the Dane’s plans which has made his rumoured contract extension all the more baffling.

Bryan King: Tottenham should not extend Yves Bissouma’s contract

It has been widely reported that Tottenham plan to extend Bissouma’s contract to prevent him from leaving for free this summer.

Injuries and inconsistency have defined the Mail international’s time in North London.

  • Bissouma has made 100 appearances for Spurs in three and a half years
  • He has missed 84 games and 257 days due to various injuries

The defensive midfielder was called out for his off-field behaviour under Ange Postecoglou, and given his current form, speaking exclusively with Tottenham Hotspur NewsBryan King believes Tottenham wouldn’t benefit from extending Bissouma’s contract.

“The question is and always has been his discipline. It didn’t improve under Frank. It’s no good having somebody within the club who’s going to be causing that kind of trouble,” King said.

“The last thing that Frank wants is a player who is going to be unnerving other players in the discipline aspect. I would have thought that Spurs would be making a move to sell him.

“It’s all well and good to hint at giving him another year, but are they only doing that to try and show that he’s still valuable to the football club? When really he isn’t.

“He’s not playing, so what use is he to Spurs? I would have thought that Spurs would want to move him on, because he hasn’t shown Frank anything so far.

“If they extend that contract, they’ll be left with a player who will be on very good money and effectively won’t be giving them anything back.”

Yves Bissouma could have left Tottenham a hero

Bissouma’s incredible performance to deliver Tottenham the UEFA Europa League will forever be remembered by fans.

After a difficult season for the midfielder, he was fearless in the midfield and made it so Manchester United hardly had a sniff of the Lilywhites' goal.

Moving on that summer would’ve been best for all involved, and he came close, but Bissouma’s transfer to Galatasaray collapsed in the final moments

Had it come through, he would’ve no doubt received a hero’s farewell from Tottenham supporters.

But months later and the narrative around Bissouma has changed for the worse.

It is mind-blowing what time can do, and a player who once made his mark in North London will be remembered by the majority as a player who failed to live up to his potential.
