Tottenham shock: 'Final nail in the coffin for Postecoglou' - reaction

Tottenham supporters joined together in outrage on social media after news emerged Dominic Solanke is set for an extended period on the sidelines.

Although the 27-year-old was expected to be benched for the trip to Everton on Sunday (19 January), he is Spurs' second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League with seven goals, level with Brennan Johnson and one behind James Maddison.

However, the selection dilemma has been taken out of Ange Postecoglou's hands after journalist Paul O Keefe revealed on Saturday (18 January) that the forward has sustained a knee injury with the extent of the issue undetermined.

It's safe to say the news of Solanke's injury has not gone down well with the Tottenham supporters.

Spurs are heading to Goodison Park closer to the relegation zone than they are to the European spots - every game from now until May will be like cup finals for Postecoglou.

The Australian is fighting for his life in North London, and as ex-Liverpool man and Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness implied in the Daily Mail (18 January), it may not be long before the boss loses the dressing room.

However, if the replies to O Keefe's report via X are anything to go by, Spurs are heading for relegation this year without Solanke.

One supporter claims they weren't " legitimately worried about relegation until now", whereas another simply stated, "Let's just liquidate this club."

While another supporter steered away from the relegation talk but believes this could be the beginning of the end of Postecoglou and Tottenham, writing: "I've been Ange in. [I'm] forever hoping to see how he does when he gets his players back and having drilled his relentless style into them. Clearly, though, now the man is genuinely jinxed, and we will simply never again see his ideal starting lineup. Some things are just not meant to be?"

Indeed, losing Solanke is a massive blow to Spurs, but relegation talk in the middle of January is a tad excessive, to say the least.

Especially considering the three promoted sides are rooted in the relegation zone with far inferior squads.

Regardless, Daniel Levy must act fast in the transfer window to ease the disgruntled fans before he has widespread panic on his hands.
