Tottenham set for Aston Villa defeat as Daniel Levy’s incompetence continues to haunt Thomas Frank
Daniel Levy may have now left Tottenham, but the former chairman’s actions continue to have an impact on the North London club.
Levy officially departed Tottenham at the start of September, ending his long run at Spurs.
For many of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful, it was a relief, with the chairman proving to be a highly controversial figure.
Levy’s competence on the transfer front at Tottenham was often questioned, with Spurs having a terrible time in the businessman’s last full season at the North London club.
Now, despite leaving Tottenham well over a month ago, his previous actions could still have dire consequences when Aston Villa arrive on Sunday.
Morgan Rogers has an excellent record against Tottenham
The Aston Villa winger had an excellent 2024-25 campaign, which saw him pick up 30 goal contributions in all competitions.
As a result, the attacker is now a seasoned England international, and while he might not have had the best start to the new campaign, he is still a threat.
- Rogers scored 14 times and picked up 16 assists in all competitions last season
- However, he only has two assists to date in the current campaign
- Rogers does have a great record against Tottenham, and picked up an assist in their last meeting
With Villa travelling to Tottenham on Sunday, Rogers will be aiming to get his first Villa goal of the season, and considering his record against Spurs, he has an excellent chance.
In the three matches he has played against the North London side, he has netted twice and also picked up two assists.
However, if Tottenham had simply brought Rogers in the summer, they would not have had to deal with this threat.
There is an argument to be had that Levy was a major factor as to why Rogers didn’t go to Tottenham.
Now, this could come back to haunt Spurs, in what is already predicted to be a close game.
If the attacker continues his form against Tottenham, the hosts are surely set for another defeat, and this could have been avoided if Levy had just brought the winger.
Thomas Frank missing numerous threats against Aston Villa
Alongside Rogers, there have been plenty of players for Spurs who have provided a significant threat during this fixture.
Traditionally, Heung-min Son was Spurs’ go-to man against Villa, with the winger picking up 13 goal contributions in the 12 matches he had played against the Birmingham outfit.
On top of this, Dominic Solanke has an excellent record against Villa, netting four times in seven matches.
However, Thomas Frank will be without these stars, due to them moving on or simply being injured, which is set to add to further difficulty to the fixture.
