Tottenham: Raphinha 'ticks a lot of boxes' for Ange Postecoglou after Fabrizio Romano update

Tottenham News speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Tottenham from Rangers in 2008, winning the 2008 League Cup final in just his third game for the club. The former Scotland right-back went on to make 66 appearances in all competitions for Spurs before he left for Aston Villa in 2011. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Tottenham News' team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from North London.

Barcelona winger Raphinha will tick a lot of boxes for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Alan Hutton.

Postecoglou is understood to want to add to his forward options at the end of the season, with several high-profile targets already linked with a switch to North London including Pedro Neto and the Brazilian international.

Reports from Fabrizio Romano (27 March) have confirmed that Spurs do have a concrete interest in the winger ahead of the summer transfer window, but Barcelona's financial fair play situation may dictate their asking price.

While Hutton believes Raphinha has characteristics that fit Postecoglou's style at Spurs, he has been left questioning whether Daniel Levy would be willing to spend the money required to pull him away from La Liga.

"He's got the ability and he'll be given that freedom to express himself," Hutton told Tottenham News.

"I think a player like him, that's what he needs. Maybe at Barcelona is it a little bit more structured? Has he not been given the time on the pitch that he would like to go and show that ability? It's a league that he knows well if he comes back to England, he knows what it is all about.

"It is a lot of money however, I don't know how much football he's played this season but it's a lot of money to pay. Is Daniel Levy willing to splash that when he might be looking at other areas within the team?

"It will be an interesting one, but definitely somebody that ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham."

Will Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou sign Raphinha in the January transfer window?

While it seems unlikely that Levy will be willing to throw immense amounts of money at Postecoglou's playing squad, Barcelona's well-documented financial issues could open the door for Spurs to strike a deal which suits all parties.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has recently been slammed by supporters

The Brazilian winger has shown both at the Camp Nou and with Leeds United that he has the technical ability to burn and he would add an extra dimension to Spurs' attack which very few other players could produce.

While nothing is set in stone, the 27-year-old ticks a lot of boxes for Tottenham ahead of the summer transfer window and this could certainly be a deal to keep an eye on as the transfer window draws closer.
