Tottenham new manager: Graham Potter spotted in talks in shock update

Tottenham managerial target Graham Potter has been spotted in talks with West Ham United sporting director Tim Steidten.

The former Chelsea manager is the bookmakers' favourite to take over in North London if Ange Postecoglou is sacked, with odds of 2/1 with Paddy Power.

However, this seems unlikely following an update from David Ornstein [NBC Sports, 5 January] that claimed the Australian was "100 per cent safe in his job".

It now looks even more improbable after Potter was seen with Steidten [WestHamFootball, 6 January], with the Hammers set to sack Julen Lopetegui [Alex Crook], although it is unknown exactly when the picture is from.

It seems that Postecoglou is completely safe at Spurs with the best contender to replace him seemingly out of the picture, on top of Ornstein's update.

That is probably the best move for the Lilywhites. The Australian needs time to implement his playing philosophy and get the team back on track as they are currently in 12th place in the Premier League, nine points off of a European qualification place.

He is set to be backed in the January transfer window, which makes no sense if he was about to be relieved of his duties.

Chopping and changing managers every season or two is not a good strategy if the North Londoners want to challenge for honours in the near future.

The former Celtic man now needs the full backing of the board in a public statement to end the speculation over his future at the club.

It is time to focus on the action on the pitch and improving results so that Spurs can reach a European qualification spot or win a trophy and salvage their season.
