John Wenham believes Tottenham gem Jamie Donley is better than Jobe Bellingham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is not interested in the club signing Bellingham.

It comes after a report in The Guardian (3 June) shared that Tottenham have expressed an interest in the midfielder, with Sunderland holding out for a fee of £20million.

However, Wenham - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - claims that the £20million could be better spent elsewhere.

“He’s not a player I am interested in us signing to be brutally honest,” Wenham said.

“Whenever I’ve watched him play for England, I've always come away with the feeling that Donley is better than him.

“Therefore, I wouldn't want to be adding someone to the club who I don't think is a better option than what we've already got.

“I'd rather we save the £20million and put it toward a big-name signing while promoting Donley instead.”

Will Tottenham look to sign Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland?

Signing Bellingham would be a gamble for Daniel Levy and Spurs.

Spending £20million on an 18-year-old who is unproven in the Premier League could easily backfire.

While there is a lot of hype around the youngster, there is also plenty of talent within Spurs' academy which could be promoted instead.

Players like Donley, Mikey Moore, and Will Lankshear thrived last season and there is therefore not much reason to sign Bellingham.

Promoting those players would be much cheaper and the money which would be used for Bellingham could go toward a player who is guaranteed to make an impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
