Tottenham could utilise their buy-back clause and re-sign former academy prospect Marcus Edwards, according to Correio de Manha.

According to the Portuguese news outlet (7 November), Spurs have the advantage to bring Edwards back to the club after he left for Sporting Lisbon in 2019 having struggled to break into the first-team setup at Hotspur Way.

The Premier League side has a buy-back clause which means they would only have to pay £34million for the forward, which is just 65 per cent of his £52million release clause.

Edwards reminded his former club of his talent by scoring for Sporting Lisbon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a 1-1 draw in the UEFA Champions League last season.

The 24-year-old could offer Spurs depth across a number of positions in the forward line.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News:

"I was at Tottenham's game against Sporting Lisbon last season and I was impressed by Edwards, he is a good player. I liked him. For me, he was a standout player.

"He is small, but his football ability is excellent, he has turned into quite an accomplished player at Sporting Lisbon.

"If he is available I would say go and get him because he would be the perfect player who could come in for James Maddison, and he could also play alongside Maddison as well.

"If he is going to move this is the time to do it, so Tottenham can get five or six good years out of him."
