Tottenham were in dire need of reinforcement across the board as soon as the winter transfer window opened up in January.

While Antonin Kinksy was the first name to come in near the start of January, it felt like Spurs needed a few more players in order to try and get themselves out of the rut that saw him briefly fall into the bottom five of the Premier League.

So, when it got to the last few days of the window and Kinsky was the only new addition who was brought in, fans were starting to get worried.

Of course, in the end, it felt like the North London outfit were bidding for anyone and anything but they did land the transfers of Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel.

However, it was Marc Guehi's name that intrigued most fans with Spurs reportedly putting in a bid worth around £70million for the Englishman [Ed Aarons, 3 February].

While a move never ended up coming to fruition as Crystal Palace wouldn't have had the time to source a replacement, Sky Sports (3 February) believe that a move could be on the cards in the summer.

Why could Tottenham be fearing a Micky van de Ven exit?

Although Tottenham have one of the best centre-backs in the league in Micky van de Ven, it feels like the addition of Guehi could put the Dutchman's position in jeopardy.

Both Guehi and Van de Ven play as left-sided centre-backs, which means that it would be hard for both of them to fit into the same team.

Of course, one could be used as a right-sided centre-back but both of the defenders seem to thrive on the left with neither having much experience on the opposite side.

Last summer, Guehi was the talk of the town and while interest may have died off in the former Chelsea youth gem, it feels like a move in the next summer window makes a lot of sense for Tottenham.

The defender, once lauded for his "superb" passing by Alan Shearer, would likely slot straight into the first-team and would no doubt improve the defensive stability of the team tenfold.

Only time will tell if a move ends up coming to fruition but if it does, it feels like Van de Ven could be replaced in Spurs' starting XI.
