Tottenham fans have reacted to the news that Alfie Dorrington won't be used at centre-back by Ange Postecoglou in a decision dubbed as "pathetic".

Spurs have been through the wars in terms of defensive injuries this season, with all of their senior centre-back options now sidelined.

Archie Gray has had to fill in at the heart of the defence over the last few weeks and, while he's done a decent enough job, it's not a long-term solution.

But Dorrington, who actually is a natural centre-back, could well be.

Despite this, however, it seems that Postecoglou will stick with the former Leeds man rather than give a player from the youth set-up a run-out.

That is according to journalist George Bann, as relayed by Daily Hotspur on X late on Friday night (27 December).

Tottenham fans want Ange Postecoglou to play Alfie Dorrington in defence

Postecoglou has found himself under some major scrutiny recently due to the underperformance of Spurs across all competitions.

The Australian has tried to patch up his defensive woes with temporary fixes, but even those have shown their flaws this term.

Dorrington seems to have a bright future ahead of him and, while the former Celtic boss may think it's too early to give him a go, he could end up stumbling upon the answer to all his problems if he chose to make the gamble.

Due to Postecoglou's stubbornness, it seems like Spurs fans have had enough with one dubbing the decision as "pathetic" while another said that the decision was "bonkers".

Spurs' next few games will no doubt be crucial for where the future of Postecoglou lies as numerous names have already been linked with taking over from the Australian.

Only time will tell whether his decision to not start Dorrington will pay off, but only a victory will do against Wolves on Sunday (29 December).
