Tottenham face 'huge problem' to seal transfer for Man Utd ace Marcus Rashford

Paul Robinson

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson played 175 times for Tottenham between 2004 and 2008, winning the League Cup with Spurs in the 2007/08 season. Since hanging up his gloves in 2017, Robinson has moved into the world of punditry and can be regularly seen or heard on Sky Sports and BBC Radio 5 Live. Tottenham News is now delighted to present Robinson as part of its team of experts.

Marcus Rashford's eye-watering wages will be seen as a "huge problem" after Tottenham were tipped to sign the Manchester United star.

Supporters of the North London club have been very vocal about signing the 27-year-old, who recently shared his desire to seal a move away from Old Trafford during an interview with Henry Winter.

Ange Postecoglou, on the other hand, has thrown cold water over any rumours of a transfer happening in January [The Mirror], and Robinson has stated why a move would be almost impossible for Spurs.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "It won't happen - absolutely no chance. He'll cost far too much and his wages will be a huge problem. I think he's a fantastic talent but I don't think it's a January move.

"Marcus is 27 years old now, sat with a hefty contract, so it won't be an easy deal for anyone to do. From an England point of view, it's a shame not to see him play every week because he's a top-quality player.

"I don't see Tottenham paying the money to get him out, so that won't be his next port of call. Manchester United and Ruben Amorim need to get the best out of him.

"He's made noises and murmurs that he wants out but, at the moment, it's a difficult deal to do. It'll be an expensive deal to do in January as well, so I think that cuts Spurs out altogether."

Tottenham to sign Marcus Rashford as Manchester United exit eyed?

While Rashford is an extremely talented forward, one who has performed in the Premier League for countless seasons now, it does not seem like a sensible signing for the Lilywhites.

Considering his current wages in Manchester, Daniel Levy is unlikely to open his wallet enough to sign him, which could rule the club out of the transfer race altogether, even during summer.

All fans are aware of just how good he can be while at his best, which makes his downfall all the more difficult to watch from the outside.
