Tottenham midfielder Matthew Craig has been recalled from his loan with Barnsley and sent to Mansfield Town.

Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham previously told Tottenham News that he expected Craig to be recalled from his loan spell with Barnsley.

This was confirmed via Spurs' official website on Thursday (9 January), with the 21-year-old joining Mansfield Town on loan for the rest of the season.

Tottenham are expected to make a long-term decision on the youngster this summer and Wenham - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - thinks this is a good loan move for Craig.

“I had to Google what league Mansfield are in if I’m being honest,” Wenham said.

“For some reason, I didn’t have them down as a League One team. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Craig had joined a club not far behind Barnsley.

“Therefore, hopefully, this will guarantee more regular game time, which can only be a good thing.”

Tottenham midfielder Matthew Craig to feature regularly at Mansfield Town?

Several Spurs stars have struggled out on loan this season. However, Craig's struggles could be particularly costly.

It feels like a make-or-break year for the midfielder. However, with the number of options Spurs already have in the middle of the park, it isn't looking good for Craig.

Therefore, it is important that the 21-year-old enjoys a positive loan spell with the Stags, otherwise his Tottenham career could well be over.

He has one final chance to convince Ange Postecoglou that he should be kept around next season.

However, if he fails to make an impression at Mansfield, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him sold this summer, especially with his contract expiring in 2026.
