Dane Scarlett will be desperate to finally break through at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Scarlett made his first-team debut in North London at the age of 16 but is yet to really push on.

Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho handed the then-teenager his debut in Spurs colours from the bench as Tottenham thrashed Ludogorets 4-0 in the UEFA Europa League during the 2020/21 season.

Scarlett has been on a couple of loan spells since, most recently making the switch to Championship high-flyers Ipswich Town during the first half of the 2022/23 season.

However, he was recalled to Hotspur Way in January due to a lack of game time with the Tractor Boys and despite some brief cameo appearances under Ange Postecoglou, he hasn't been that much busier since returning to his boyhood club.

Scarlett will be keen to get more first-team opportunities in North London, and after what he did for England's Under-20s, Postecoglou might be tempted to hand him those opportunities.

Ange Postecoglou should take a chance on Tottenham striker Dane Scarlett

Although he has limited experience of football at the highest level, Scarlett isn't much younger than the likes of Destiny Udogie or Pape Matar Sarr, and there is no reason why he doesn't deserve the chance to prove himself, as he demonstrated while on international duty.

Scarlett started and completed 90 minutes for England's Elite Squad as they thrashed Poland 5-1 in the Under-20 Euro Elite League on Friday (22 March).

Not only was the forward involved, but he netted a 24-minute hattrick at the Bialystok City Stadium in Białystok, Poland, which more or less won the game for England.

He doubled the Young Lions' lead two minutes after the restart with an impressive individual effort, before squeezing home through a crowd of players seven minutes later and then scoring from the spot in the 71st minute.

It was a fantastic display from Scarlett which showcased that he is capable of scoring all types of goals, as he featured in the matchday squad alongside on-loan Spurs duo Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips, with the former making an appearance from the bench in the second half.

Scarlett will feel as though he is ready to push on in his career and Postecoglou must prove that there is a pathway in N17 for one of the club's most talented academy graduates, or the striker might start to consider his options elsewhere.
