Will Lankshear has demonstrated once again to Ange Postecoglou why he deserves a first-team call-up at Tottenham.

Wayne Burnett's side advanced to the final four of the Premier League Cup with a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa's Under-21s at Bodymoor Heath.

After Yago Santiago had given the visitors the lead during the first half, Kaden Young was on hand to equalise for the hosts just two minutes after the restart.

However, late goals from Jamie Donley and Lankshear ensured it would be the North London side competing in the semi-finals during their debut season in the competition.

A number of the Tottenham players on show were part of the youth team which won the Under-17 and Under-18 version of the same tournament last season, and their desire to go one better was clear.

But for Lankshear, he perhaps had his own added motivation on Tuesday evening.

Will Lankshear deserves a first-team opportunity under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Lankshear has been in fine form as of late, with the striker continuously finding the back of the net.

And as he once again scored on an evening where Spurs' first-team could have used a goal or two, Postecoglou might perhaps be wise to hand the 18-year-old a first-team opportunity.

While his striker partner and fellow England Under-19 international Donley has been called up to a few of Postecoglou's Premier League squads this season, and even been handed his debut in England's top flight, Lankshear has had no such luck.

Ange Postecoglou should hand Will Lankshear his Tottenham debut

However his form is deserving of a chance in the first-team, and with Postecoglou clearly needing some fresh ideas in the final third, the Australian should take a gamble and hand Lankshear his debut.
