Ange Postecoglou could regret benching Tottenham forward Timo Werner against Rangers in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Postecoglou is under immense pressure and in need of something "remarkable" to save his job with Spurs having won just one of their last seven matches.

Daniel Levy is expected to make a decision on the Australian's future within days, with supporters calling for Massimiliano Allegri to be appointed after a "monumental" update.

Therefore, it is clear that Postecoglou needs a win at Ibrox on 12 December. However, that might be a difficult feat to achieve considering all of the injury issues in North London, which has resulted in a behind-the-scenes investigation.

And Postecoglou's decision to start Werner as confirmed via the club's official X account [12 December] could prove costly for the 59-year-old.

Postecoglou has left Dominic Solanke on the bench and is playing Son Heung-min through the middle, with Werner starting on the left against the Gers.

However, after the German's performance in the 4-3 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [8 December], Postecoglou could live to regret that decision.

As per Sofascore, Werner replaced Brennan Johnson in the 53rd minute and was successful with just 50 per cent of his dribble attempts and completed just 67 per cent of his passes, although three of these were key.

In addition, zero per cent of his crosses into the box were accurate, and although Werner did create one big chance, he also won just two of his five ground duels and was dribbled past twice.

Therefore, Postecoglou will need to hope that the forward steps up when he needs him most and puts in a much-improved display.
