Tamworth breached IFAB rules during their FA Cup tie with Tottenham due to the goalkeeper wearing the same colour kit as the referee, according to Keith Hackett.

Home goalkeeper Jasbir Singh wore a luminous yellow strip for Sunday's (12 January) FA Cup third-round tie at The Lamb Ground - the same colour as referee Peter Bankes - with Tamworth losing 3-0 after extra time.

As pointed out by former PGMOL chief Hackett, this is a breach of rules in a match that falls under the umbrella of the Football Association (FA).

Footage shared by ITV Football on X [12 January] shows the breach flagged by Hackett.

"The goalkeeper of Tamworth is wearing the same colour as the referee," Hackett exclusively told Tottenham News.

"This is a Football Association game and they sit on the board of IFAB, who are responsible for the laws of the game.

"Those laws state that the two teams must distinguish themselves from each other and also the match officials."

Tottenham brought back down to earth by Tamworth

This is very much what the FA Cup is all about. Premier League giants Tottenham having to make the trip to non-league Tamworth in a ground that holds roughly 4,000 spectators.

While the hosts were guilty of breaching rules, it almost lends into the nature of a David vs Goliath cup tie and hopefully there is no fallout from this.

Tottenham badly struggled, being taken to extra time by a non-league side in a performance that could easily spell the end of Postecoglou's tenure.
