John Wenham is hopeful that Tottenham star Son Heung-min's latest goal for South Korea will hand him a much-needed confidence booster.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose was impressed to see the 32-year-old reach 50 goals for his country.

Son hit the milestone as South Korea recorded a 3-1 World Cup qualifying victory away to Kuwait at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium on Thursday (14 November).

And Wenham - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - thinks this could be just what the forward needed after recent criticism.

“To reach 50 goals for South Korea is impressive,” Wenham said.

“It was a penalty on this occasion. However, you still need to score. I never devalue a penalty, they're still difficult to convert.

“Therefore, hopefully, that will give Son a confidence booster. He was someone who seemed to take a lot of fan criticism for his display against Ipswich.

“I don’t think it was against him personally, I just think it is because his standards are so high. He is a world-class player, so people expect a lot of him.”

Tottenham star Son Heung-min back among the goals

Son has suffered from injury setbacks in recent weeks. As a result, his playing time has been limited, which means his goal for South Korea was his first in almost a month for club or country.

Therefore, Ange Postecoglou will be hopeful that this is exactly what his captain needs to get back on track.

Therefore, Spurs fans will just hope to see their long-serving star continue to find the back of the net.
