Son Heung-Min has announced his decision to leave Tottenham.

The left winger will depart North London as a legend after finally getting his hands on the Europa League trophy after over a decade at the club.

He will be greatly missed by Spurs supporters, and they will no doubt wish him well in his next adventure, which seems to be in the MLS with LAFC.

However, something which the South Korean forward said should have Daniel Levy and Co. concerned.

Son shares reason for Tottenham exit announcement

Son’s exit is emotional for everyone involved with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium outfit.

He explained the decision in a press conference held in Seoul, where the Lilywhites are preparing for the new season.

In quotes reported by Alastair Gold (2 August), he said: “It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. The main reason is I have achieved everything I can at Tottenham. I need a new environment for a fresh challenge.”

Tottenham admission is damning for Levy

Tottenham have done great business so far in the transfer window, with the addition of Mohammed Kudus, Kota Takai and the permanent transfers of Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel.

They were also willing to pay £60m for Morgan Gibbs-White before he signed a new contract with Nottingham Forest and are set to move on to alternative targets.

However, even with the latest investment, which is understood to have come from ENIC rather than an outside source, Son clearly doesn’t feel like they can win the Premier League or CL anytime soon.

That is a worrying sign for Levy, who admitted after the Europa League final win that he wants Spurs to be challenging for the highest honours.

If the 32-year-old felt like they could have won the biggest prizes, he might have stuck around for a bit longer.

Instead, Tottenham will pay an emotional goodbye to a legendary figure, who finally earned the success that he deserved.

It will be a huge blow for new head coach Thomas Frank, as Son’s leadership will be missed hugely, but it may be a bigger blow for Levy, as it is a damning indictment of where the club is at right now as opposed to where he wants it to be.
