Tottenham are flying under Thomas Frank, having won four of their opening five games of the season.

While it was an underwhelming performance, Spurs managed to overcome Villarreal in the Champions League with a 1-0 win.

Frank's side have delivered better displays in the Premier League, with their victory over Man City the standout result.

However, the Tottenham faithful may have to hold on to their seats as similarities have been made to Ange Postecoglou's era.

Simon Jordan makes Ange Postecoglou point to Danny Murphy

Postecoglou may have led Tottenham to the Europa League title, but Frank will be desperate not to suffer like his predecessor.

The Dane has enjoyed an almost perfect start to life in North London, with Bournemouth the only blemish on his record.

Indeed, the Lilywhites have looked stronger defensively, while showing moments of quality in attack.

  • Spurs have nine points from 12 in the Premier League
  • They are sat third in the table
  • Tottenham have only conceded one goal

Murphy praised Spurs while appearing on talkSPORT on 17 September before Jordan effectively threw a wet towel over his words.

Murphy said: "Right now, he's [Frank] fixed the problem of what they had and actually some boring wins, I'm sure Tottenham fans are happy with at the moment..."

Jordan replied: "You want to compare and contrast, look at how they started the season last year."

"Look at the start to the season last year. Their first eight games, they conceded four goals. They beat teams 3-0, 1-0, 4-0..

"Their first Europa League game was against Qarabag, they beat them 3-0. They beat Man United 3-0, they beat Brentford 3-1, they beat Arsenal 1-0. They lost to Newcastle, and they beat Everton 4-0.

"So what are we talking about when comparing and contrasting what Tomas Frank's doing. Same situation, except the wheels came off with Ange after the Brighton game."

Should Tottenham fans have Ange Postecoglou concern with Thomas Frank?

First of all, it must be noted that large sections of Spurs supporters did not want Postecoglou sacked after what he achieved.

However, there can be no hiding from the woeful Premier League campaign, even if his side was plagued with injuries.

While Jordan is right to point out the Lilywhites' statistics from the start of last season, there is every reason to believe things will be different under Frank.

Of course, the performance against Villarreal was far from good, but Tottenham could be forgiven on their return to the Champions League.

  • Tottenham scored from a goalkeeping howler
  • Villarreal failed to land a shot on goal
  • Spurs managed one shot on target

What Spurs have shown under Frank is that they are generally defensively sound and disciplined in keeping their shape.

More importantly, it seems that the former Brentford boss is willing to adapt his team depending on the opposition.

Postecoglou was frequently criticised for not mixing up his tactics, with teams able to take advantage of their style of play.

While the Tottenham faithful cannot get carried away, there is a fair expectation that life will be vastly better this season.
