Ange Postecoglou's sacking is likely to have a knock-on effect at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Postecoglou has been sacked by Tottenham after two seasons in charge, despite winning the UEFA Europa League and consequently securing a place in the UEFA Champions League.

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy had constructed his succession plan before the end of a disappointing Premier League campaign, in which Tottenham finished 17th with 38 points.

The news of Postecoglou's departure is no doubt set to hurt Spurs' players, who had faith in Postecoglou till the end. However, no player is expected to be harder hit than Romero, who had two excellent seasons under the Australian.

Romero could leave Tottenham because of Postecoglou sack news

Romero has been linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Before his departure, Postecoglou had full confidence in the centre-back for the next season.

However, now that the Australian has been dismissed, Romero could follow him out, and provide Spurs' new coach with the funds from his sale to sign a replacement.

The Argentine was thought to be extremely close to the former Tottenham manager and was one of several players who backed him for a third season.

With no clear direction and Atletico Madrid eager to sign the defender, Postecoglou's departure could be the final nail in the coffin for Romero's time at Tottenham.

Tottenham could lose Romero to Atletico

Tottenham have been resolute so far in their decision to keep Romero, but with a new coach on the way, Levy could be tempted to sell him for a huge sum.

And while Atletico Madrid remain keen on the player, Romero could be seduced by the prospect of playing in La Liga.

Julian Alverez recently expressed his desire to see his international teammate join him in the Spanish capital. Therefore, the departure of Postecoglou, the kind words from his fellow Argentine, and the sum Tottenham could collect from his sale may all be enough to push him to Madrid.
