Tottenham visited Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, looking to follow up their impressive 3-0 win over Burnley.

Thomas Frank has completely transformed several Lilywhites' players as they begin to look like a competitive outfit in the Premier League again.

Richarlison is one of those players who has been on fire in recent weeks and had his opening assist against Manchester City reinstated by VAR after it was judged that he was onside in the buildup.

Brennan Johnson ultimately converted from his square pass to put themselves 1-0 up at the Etihad, with Joao Palhinha doubling that lead minutes later.

Premier League issue statement after overturning Tottenham's goal

Match Official Peter Banks and linesman Edward Smart came to a joint decision that Tottenham's opener against Manchester City was offside.

However, Video Assistant Referee Andy Madley overturned the decision and gave a goal following an extensive review.

The Premier League Match Centre have now published a statement on X explaining the decision.

It read: "VAR checked the referee’s call of no goal for Tottenham Hotspur - and established that Richarlison was in an onside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was awarded."

Spurs have looked brilliant so far in the game, as they built up play well to beat the offside trap for their opener.

Palhinha was also excellent as he converted the ball home to give Tottenham an ideal 2-0 lead over the Citizens in the second minute of first-half added time.

Tottenham look set to continue their impressive record vs Man City

Now, they look set to continue their fine record against Pep Guardiola's side, at the time of writing.

  • Tottenham have won two of their last three against Man City
  • They have won five of their last ten against City
  • They boast one of the best records against their opponents

Having struggled in recent seasons, one thing has remained consistent: they have a way of figuring out Guardiola's style of play and getting results against City.

Should they carry on their fine performance and win today, it could be a real statement that Spurs are back to competing for the top four again.
