Richie Wellens looks even stranger for aiming a jibe at Ange Postecoglou after what his Tottenham loanees have done at Leyton Orient.

The O's picked up Josh Keeley and Jamie Donley on season-long loans at the start of the season, with both playing regular roles in League One.

Despite picking up key players from the Lilywhites, Wellens said he would not copy the Spurs boss by blaming injuries for a loss against Stockport County on Saturday 1 February.

This didn't seem fair anyway, but after the latest development at Brisbane Road, it looks all the more bizarre.

Richie Wellens jibe at Tottenham looks bizarre again

The third-tier side currently sit sixth in the table and are firmly in the race to confirm a place in the playoffs by the end of the season.

It is fair to say that the Spurs duo have been important to this success and that has been recognised by both Donley and Keeley being nominated at this month’s London Football Awards [i Paper].

The latter has been nominated for the goalkeeper of the year award while the versatile midfielder is a nominee for the EFL Player of the Year.

There is another link that exists between the O's and Spurs given that Lilywhites' Women's side play their home matches at Brisbane Road.

With all this being said, why would Wellens take a needless swipe at Postecoglou especially when there is already a bond between the two sides?

This is the sort of thing that could end a fruitful partnership which will ultimately harm Orient moving forward which makes it all the more bizarre. Hopefully Wellens will be a bit more considered with what he says in the future because it was a totally unnecessary dig.
