Tottenham supporters will be growing impatient as the Ange Postecoglou sack saga drags on.

Daniel Levy and Postecoglou have both been on holiday after a rollercoaster season, but the former returned to work this week and announced the departure of a long-term associate at Tottenham.

The pressing issue before Levy is that of the manager, with the joys of winning the UEFA Europa League now feeling like a lifetime ago for Spurs supporters, who continue to await a decision on Postecoglou.

It is possible that the Spurs supremo was waiting for the emotions to die down before reaching his verdict, but Postecoglou will be keen to clarify his position.

Levy's decision is 'highly likely' to be reached this week

The decision facing Levy is an unenviable one, with Postecoglou simultaneously delivering a long-awaited trophy while guiding Tottenham to their lowest ever Premier League finish.

Which carries more weight is not the issue; it's whether the Australian is the right man to stabilise the league results and take Tottenham forward next season and beyond.

Either way, Levy must decide soon to avoid falling further behind other clubs' preparations, and as reported by Sky Sports (4 June), Postecoglou's future is set to be clarified by the end of the week.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn't understand why a decision hasn't yet been reached.

“I can’t see what is taking so long,” King said.

“This is a very strange situation. However, we’re used to strange situations involving the board at Tottenham. As far as I’m aware, Postecoglou is with CAA Base.

“Therefore, obviously, negotiations will be going on between Postecoglou, his agents, and Levy to either come up with a settlement fee or an improved one-year contract. However, it all seems very strange.”

Levy risks losing Tottenham fans again

Tottenham supporters have had a fractious relationship with Levy since his arrival in North London in 2001, though the early-season protests seemed to momentarily fall into the backdrop.

He risks becoming the pantomime villain with the fanbase once again should he remove Postecoglou from his post and not replace the Australian with an exceptional candidate.

There is also growing angst amongst the supporters over how this decision might affect the playing squad, with the risk of losing club icon Son Heung-min heightened if the former Celtic manager is replaced.
