PGMOL release VAR audio from Luis Diaz controversy in Tottenham win v Liverpool

The PGMOL has released the VAR audio from Luis Diaz's wrongly disallowed goal for Liverpool in their 2-1 defeat against Tottenham, via the Premier League's official website on 3 October.

Diaz was flagged offside by the linesman despite replays showing the Liverpool forward was actually onside in the build-up to his goal. VAR Darren England mistakenly believed the on-field decision was to award the goal, leading him to tell Simon Hooper the check was complete.

The audio, which was released on Tuesday, reveals that once England and Darren Cook were alerted to the mistake by the replay operator, they revealed they could no longer intervene as play had restarted.

Liverpool would go on to lose the contest 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (30 September).

PGMOL also released a statement, claiming the following, "PGMOL can confirm that we have carried out a review into the circumstances which led to the Luis Diaz goal being incorrectly disallowed for offside in the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur FC and Liverpool FC."

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King told Tottenham News:

"What is this going to achieve? Are they going to replay the match? The mistakes have been made, and as I have said before, what difference is this audio going to make?

"It is very nice for people to listen to it but what is the point? We all know what went wrong, one of those in the VAR room, plus the referee and the three other officials made a mistake. If they are going to name the person who made the mistake then poor him, but all of them are responsible.
