Pape Matar Sarr has enjoyed a strong pre-season for Tottenham under Thomas Frank.

Sarr has become a staple in Spurs’ midfield since impressing Ange Postecoglou during his first season.

But while he has been one of the first names on the team sheet in recent months, there has been doubt on whether this would continue under a new manager.

Sarr should not be ‘fearful’ of his spot at Tottenham

Joao Palhinha’s arrival at Hotspur Way could see numerous players questioning their place at Spurs next season.

The midfield has talent in abundance, and adding extra competition to the mix may not go down well with some senior players.

However, after impressing during pre-season, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Sarr has nothing to fear

“Frank mentioned Sarr specifically after the Arsenal game,” Wenham said.

“He's someone who's really impressed me. Therefore, I think we could see Sarr having another really big season at the club. I think he'll certainly be one in among the squad.

“However, with Palhinha joining the club, someone that I'm delighted with and one that I think instantly improves the starting XI, others will be fearful of their places, but I'm not sure that applies to the Sarr.

“I can see Sarr certainly staying at the club long term and featuring significantly across all competitions.”

Sarr still has everything to prove at Tottenham

When a new manager comes in, it is normally as if a fresh slate has been administered.

Whether or not a player had performed well under the new coach is irrelevant - everyone needs to earn their place once again.

Of course, there are exceptions to this rule. World-class talents often find that their previous resume speaks for itself. But generally, under a different manager, players need to prove that they can perform in their system.

Sarr has already done a good job of this during pre-season and has earned nothing but praise from Frank. But while pre-season can give an indication, official games will set in stone his role for the new season.

Sarr must continue this form into the next few months, or he could lose his starting spot as quickly as it was handed to him.
