Mathys Tel appears to have moved one step closer to joining Tottenham permanently after a fresh announcement from Hotspur Way.

Tottenham signed Tel on loan from Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window, with a £45million buy option included in the transfer agreement.

The Frenchman struggled for game time in the first half of the season, playing just 253 minutes in the Bundesliga. However, since his move to North London, Tel has seen more playing time and has become a UEFA Europa League winner.

Now, the 20-year-old could make his stay with Tottenham permanent as the Lilywhites look to strengthen their squad in time for the new season.

Tottenham make no mention of Tel in exit update

With the season firmly behind them and UEFA Champions League football secured, Tottenham will look to make waves in the summer transfer window.

The North London club will be planning a summer of change, which already seems to be underway.

It was confirmed by Tottenham on Saturday (31 May) that Alfie Whiteman, Fraser Forster and Sergio Reguilón have all departed the club following the end of their contracts.

Meanwhile, the Lilywhites confirmed that Timo Werner had left the club after his loan spell in North London and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg's move to Marseille had been made permanent, while Kevin Danso's permanent move to Tottenham was also confirmed.

However, there was no mention of Ben Davies, who is out of contract this summer, or Tel.

The limited information on Tel suggests that Bayern and Tottenham are currently negotiating a deal to continue the forward's stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tel could be an exciting addition at Tottenham

While the Tottenham loanee has struggled to put up consistent numbers these past few months, he shows strong promise for the future.

And with Spurs emerging as a new hotspot for young talents, the North London club should focus on development rather than experience.
