Manchester City are threatening to hijack the signing of Abdukodir Khusanov from Tottenham, according to GiveMeSport.

The online source reports [3 January] that Spurs were already handed a significant blow when the reigning Premier League champions entered into the transfer battle for the 20-year-old.

The young centre-back has been attracting attention from all over Europe, with Ange Postecoglou's side hoping to seal his signature, but the Lilywhites are now concerned they could miss out altogether.

Tottenham to solve current injury crisis with Abdukodir Khusanov?

It certainly does feel that Pep Guardiola is about to add a very talented centre-back to his squad, especially with the likes of Ruben Dias and John Stones sidelined.

The 20-year-old is already a first-team regular for his national team, Uzbekistan, having made 31 senior appearances for Lens since the summer of 2023.

He is now an important member of the Ligue 1 side's current XI, starting 11 of their 15 league matches so far this season, only giving him a platform to impress the rest of the world.

Given the current injury crisis in North London, it is no surprise to see Spurs linked with a move for the defender.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie have all been sidelined in recent weeks, joining goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on the treatment table.

This has seen a spike of pressure on Postecoglou, who needs Daniel Levy to work his magic during the January window and bring some reinforcement to Hotspur Way as soon as humanly possible.

The owner has always been criticised for his lack of spending on the pitch but purchasing an exciting, talented centre-back this month would do wonders for his popularity at the club.

Of course, Man City and Guardiola have incredible pull when it comes to signing players, but with both teams stuck in a rut, there could be a fight over finally seals Khusanov's signature in January.
