Maeson King is knocking on Ange Postecoglou's door to make his first-team debut for Tottenham.

Postecoglou has a handful of injury issues to contend with in North London, particularly within his defence.

Guglielmo Vicario's absence is the most notable, with the goalkeeper expected to miss more than two months of action after undergoing surgery for a fracture of his right ankle. However, Spurs are also short of defenders.

As reported by Football London [29 November], Cristian Romero is "unlikely" to feature against Fulham in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [1 December], while Micky van de Ven isn't expected to return until mid-December.

It leaves Postecoglou incredibly short at the back. However, while this is no doubt bad news for the club, it could prove to be good news for 19-year-old King.

The Under-21 defender, who can play both as a centre-back and left-back, has been in and around the first-team in recent weeks, sitting on the bench for Spurs 4-0 Premier League win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium [23 November], as well as the 2-2 UEFA Europa League draw with Roma at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium [28 November].

And after his performance for Spurs' Under-21s in their 6-1 Premier League 2 victory over Middlesbrough's Under-21s at Hotspur Way on Friday [29 November], it looks as though King is getting closer and closer to making his first-team debut.

Maeson King to make first-team debut for Tottenham in December?

King was part of an impressive team performance as Spurs' Under-21s stormed to victory against Boro.

While the North London side weren't able to hang on for a clean sheet in the hand, King would still have been pleased with his performance, especially after going close to providing an assist after an "excellent" ball to Oli Irow [via Spurs' Official Website, 29 November].

Postecoglou is a big fan of defenders who can play and would have no doubt taken notice of this.

The Australian has demonstrated that he isn't afraid to give young players first-team opportunities, and with nine fixtures to come in December, and the injuries continuing to pile up, he might have to rely on his young players more than ever in the coming weeks.

And King should be near the top of the list of players in line to make their debut in that time.
