Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall started as Sweden faced France in the last 32 of the World Cup on Tuesday.

Things were always going to be difficult for Graham Potter's side and it certainly proved to be that way.

The quality of Kylian Mbappe just proved to be too much alongside the likes of Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola.

The Real Madrid man opened the scoring on the brink of half time with a stellar effort before netting a second later on.

Barcola also got on the scoresheet in the second half to condemn Bergvall and Co. to a 3-0 defeat in New York.

It wasn't complete doom and gloom for the Spurs midfielder, as he still managed to attract some sort of positivity for his performance.

What did Swedish media say about Lucas Bergvall vs France?

There have been question marks over the 20-year-old for a while in North London.

Roberto De Zerbi doesn't seem totally sold on his abilities as his future comes into question.

That hasn't impacted him on the international stage as he featured once again for Sweden.

His performance against France did prompt some praise from certain local outlets as Expressen described him as "Fast, energetic and physical".

They also added that starting the Spurs ace "proved to be a successful move".

That was echoed by Fotboll Skanalen who suggested his performance was "really sharp" as he "offered tackles and solid play".

Bergvall couldn't impress everyone as Svenska Fans were left unimpressed and said: "He had a hard time making his mark on the game."

It was always going to be difficult against arguably the best team in the world, so mixed reviews were expected.

What do the numbers say about Tottenham ace Bergvall vs France?

We'll start positively on the midfielder as his 85 per cent pass accuracy proved his coolness in the middle of the park.

That is proven further by his 100 per cent dribble success rate before he also chipped in with four defensive actions.

Bergvall then let himself down somewhat by winning just 50 per cent of his attempted duels in the middle of the park.

He also committed three fouls and failed to get his only shot of the day on target.

These numbers were always going to divide opinion, even if it was against the 2018 World Cup winners.
